The latest profit ranking of global steel companies
Steel company ArcelorMittal has reported third-quarter 2021 results. Quarterly sales were $20.229 billion, compared to $13.266 billion a year earlier. The quarterly operating profit was $5.345 billion, compared to $718 million a year earlier. The quarterly net profit was US$4.621 billion (about 29.4 billion yuan), compared with a net loss of US$261 million in the same period last year.
South Korean steel giant POSCO (POSCO) released a performance report, preliminarily verifying that the operating profit in the third quarter of 2021 increased by 364.18% year-on-year to 3.11 trillion won (about 16.6 billion yuan), breaking the 3 trillion mark for the first time and hitting a record high. Sales in the third quarter increased by 44.53% year-on-year to 20.61 trillion won (about 17.2 billion U.S. dollars).
Baosteel Co., Ltd. disclosed its third quarterly report. In the third quarter of 2021, the company achieved an operating income of 92.694 billion yuan (about 14.5 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 31.78%; net profit was 6.502 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 68.56%. In the first three quarters, the total operating income was 278.95 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38.9%; the net profit attributable to the parent company was 21.59 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 174.53%.
Nippon Steel announced its results for the first half of the fiscal year (April-September 2021). The current revenue was 3,163.943 billion yen (about 27.3 billion US dollars), compared with 2,241.992 billion yen in the same period last year. The operating profit was 477.831 billion yen, and the operating loss in the same period last year was 106.523 billion yen. The net profit was 298.727 billion yen (about 16.5 billion yuan), and the net loss in the same period last year was 191.164 billion yen.
ThyssenKrupp has announced results for the 2020/21 financial year ended September 30. Net sales for the fiscal year were 34.015 billion euros (about 38.5 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 18% over the same period last year. Adjusted EBIT profit for the fiscal year was 796 million euros, with a net loss of 19 million euros for the fiscal year.
Aluminum Corporation of China released the third quarterly report for 2021. In the third quarter, the operating income was 74.193 billion yuan (about 11.6 billion US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 51.27%; the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 2.232 billion yuan, an increase of 429.93% compared with the same period last year. In the first three quarters, China Aluminum achieved an operating income of 194.929 billion yuan, an increase of 46.39% over the same period of the previous year. The net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 5.307 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1035.68%.
Nucor announced third-quarter 2021 results. Quarterly net sales were $10.313 billion, compared to $4.928 billion in the same period last year. The quarterly net profit was $2.128 billion, compared with $193 million a year earlier.
JFE Holdings, Inc. announced results for the first half of the fiscal year (April-September 2021). The current revenue was 1,942.977 billion yen (about 16.8 billion US dollars), compared with 1,492.294 billion yen in the same period last year. The operating profit was 198.869 billion yen, and the operating loss in the same period last year was 114.338 billion yen. Net profit was 140.755 billion yen, compared with a net loss of 105.712 billion yen in the same period last year.
Hegang Co., Ltd. released the third quarterly report for 2021. In the first three quarters, the company achieved operating income of 121.747 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50.84%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was 2.369 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 104.15%. In the third quarter, the company’s main income was 46.716 billion yuan (about 7.33 billion US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 54.3%; the single-quarter net profit attributable to the parent was 848 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 78.84%.
Angang Steel released its third-quarter report for 2021. In the third quarter, the operating income was 35.986 billion yuan (about 5.65 billion US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 35.69%; the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 2.306 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 179.52%. From January to September 2021, the operating income will be 108.537 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 52.5%; the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies is 7.489 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 465.21%.
Kobe Steel (KOBE STEEL, LTD.) announced the results for the first half of the fiscal year (April-September 2021). Net sales for the period were 972.1 billion yen (about 8.4 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 776.4 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit was 44.3 billion yen, compared with an operating loss of 35.2 billion yen in the same period last year. Net profit was 34.5 billion yen, compared with a net loss of 15.2 billion yen in the same period last year.
Aluminium company Norsk Hydro has reported third-quarter 2021 results. Quarterly revenue was NOK 36.71 billion (approximately $4.16 billion), compared to NOK 27.516 billion a year earlier. Quarterly adjusted EBITDA profit was NOK 7.219 billion, compared to NOK 3.1 billion a year earlier.
voestalpine announces its results for the first half of the 2021/22 financial year (April-September 2021). Revenue for the period was 7.043 billion euros (about 8 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 5.11 billion euros in the same period last year. The current EBITDA profit was 1.05 billion euros, compared with 395 million euros in the same period last year. In the second fiscal quarter (July-September), the revenue was 3.553 billion euros, and the EBITDA profit was 540 million euros.
Alcoa reports third-quarter 2021 results. Quarterly revenue was US$3.109 billion, compared with US$2.365 billion in the same period last year, a year-on-year increase of 31.5%; net profit attributable to the company was US$337 million, compared with a net loss of US$49 million in the same period last year.
