All major Ukrainian steel bases shut down

On March 2, 2022, due to the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Metinvest, a major Ukrainian steel producer, has announced that operations at its Zaporizhstal and Zaporizhkoks steel plants in Zaporizhzhya will be temporarily suspended, Metinvest press officer Vitalii Yermak said, will ensure the safety of employees and protection of equipment. Metinvest also announces to customers that shipments will be delayed or stopped due to force majeure.

This follows the company’s decision on February 24 to suspend production at the lllyich steel plant and Azovstal in Mariupol.

In addition, a large steel plant of ArcelorMittal SA in Ukraine was closed on March 3. The plant is also one of the largest steel plants in Ukraine. So far, after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war, all major Ukrainian steel production bases have been temporarily suspended.
