South Africa terminates investigation of safeguard measures for imported structural steel products

On September 23, 2021, the WTO Safeguard Measures Committee issued the safeguard measures notification submitted to it by the South African delegation. South Africa decided to terminate the import of U, I, H, L including iron or non-alloy steel from September 17, 2021. And T-shaped materials (U, I, H, L, and T Sections of Iron or Non-alloy Steel) safeguard measures investigation, no safeguard measures are implemented. The products involved are iron or non-alloy steel profiles with a height greater than or equal to 80 mm and have not been further processed except for hot-rolled, hot-drawn, or extruded, involving products under South African tax numbers 7216.31, 7216.32, 7216.33, 7216.40, 7216.50 and 7208.70.

On June 19, 2020, in response to applications from South African companies Highveld Structural Mill (Pty) Ltd and Arcelo Mittal South Africa Limited, South Africa will import structural steel including U, I, H, L, and T sections of iron or non-alloy steel. The product initiated safeguard measures for investigation.
